One mistake a lot of people made this year was to listen to anyone and everyone.
I once said I was going to talk about mentoring and discipleship and I wish everyone knew this.
Not everyone who spits fire and says wise things is your teacher or whom you should be listening to.
It’s not about them or how good they are. This people are really good but they are not for you and this is why you need to learn to understand what season you’re in.
X is doing Instagram live, you’d be there. Y is doing a program, you’re signing up. Z is writing a book, you’re there too. Stop wandering.
And this is not about division. It’s about who is right for you or who has the message your spirit needs. That’s why you can’t be following every wise person on Instagram.
No sheep has two shepherds. And it’s discipline to find that one and stick with them. Learn from them and serve them.
When you start to listen to too many people, you get confused and start wandering and then you don’t know what values or principles you stand on/for.
That’s why Jesus said “My sheep knows my voice”. They don’t hear another voice and answer because they know who they are following.
Save yourself from too much drama.
There’s a caveat to this though; this doesn’t mean you can’t listen to more than one person. It doesn’t mean you should be deaf on what every other speaker or person or coach or pastor has to say. It just says that in all of this, you know who is personal to you and whose words you can interact with.
This is not purely Mentorship and discipleship but it gives you a guide to what it means and how to handle it.
On Mentorship and Discipleship, don’t be a sheep without a shepherd and be sure your shepherd has a shepherd.
You’re not a vagabond. God settles us in the hands of people as our homes, safe space and family.
How do you know who your mentor or discipler is? Pray. Pray. Pray. I learnt early enough that you don’t just move on to people to tell them to mentor or disciple you. Pray about it, offer to serve them and if they are the ones, God would tell them and they’d take you personally.
